K I'm really bored, just thinking of random DotA thoughts that I feel like writing somewhere. These thoughts are just flowing out and I've never processed them nor planned them out so they probably have a bad flow..(I'm not organising them either! Just need somewhere to pen out RANDOM thoughts)
When you play with pubs on your team it's normal to
play your own game because occasionally, helping them pulls you down. Good team play is when teammates are dependent on one another. Your money is my money. Your kills are my kills. Your death is my death. I usually say that it's easy to win with pub teammates because of the level of concentration and focus you have when you play alone. However, it's uncomfortable when you play alone, that's why I dislike playing without my friends. Of course, it's not like 2 people playing is that much fun either because when you're not majority you can't really say anything you want lol.
To be honest, for a group of people that have played so much together we haven't improved much as a team. Perhaps individually some of us have improved in skills or widened our hero scopes... but that's really nothing.
One of the heaviest reasons for playing badly is not having map control. The most basic map control is taking down their towers and not letting them out of their base. More advanced map control is when you ward important areas. Usually when we lose, you see that we haven't destroyed a single tower. There are many thoughts to what one should do in lane and sticking to tower to farm is one of them. However, we really need to take every chance we get to destroy towers as well. If you ever reach their tower, don't just move back; FIND A WAY TO HIT IT. Also, if you can't kill someone in lane... at least
send him back home. As long as you send him home, you win your lane still. It's going to be easy to hit the tower with no enemy heroes around. If enemy creeps reaches your tower, pull those enemy creeps behind tower towards incoming creeps. That way, enemy creeps wouldn't be killing our towers so quickly.
To be honest if you were to ask me to choose between "gank style" or "farm style", I'd say "gank style" is the best. It's fun and action-packed... but they're not the reason for being best. Rather, it's because a team of good gankers can dominate the whole map and stop anyone from leveling and farming. Even the tanks are easy to kill when it's early. However, "gank style" has a special requirement and that is to have catchers. Good mobility with disables is the only way to ensure success in ganks. The "farm style" requires a different set of heroes... usually ones that can tank. The ones that can escape are useless... they get sent home every 5 seconds even if they don't die. However, the tanks can stay around and farm forever... by the 40th minute, good farmers playing those tanks can easily be considered unkillable. But all-gank teams will win all-farm teams... reason being all-gank teams have map control, and that has the highest % of winning albeit the hardest to pull off. All-farm teams have a lower % of winning but it is the easiest to pull off. Usually in pub games we have a mix of both... and having a mix makes it even harder because the gankers have an aim to protect instead of kill.
If you have trouble thinking about how to play, what items to buy and stuff, think how you want/need to play the hero... do you want/need to gank or farm? If you're going to gank, get items that allow you to catch... ganks will fail when you don't have the ability to catch heroes. If you want to farm, get items that help you stay in lane so you can keep farming. Farming fails when you get caught, lose map dominance and have no where to farm. It usually isn't okay to buy items just because it is the common build, your own playstyle is important as well. There needs to be a compromise there then; either you change your playstyle, or you buy whatever item that suits your playstyle. Sometimes, you need to counter the enemy hero, so buy items to suit the game too! However, the best counter isn't by items, rather by heroes. You need a hero to counter another, except when the hero you are using is going for a core item that is used as counter.
Well that's it for now, got a lot more to say but never analyzed them before so those aren't going to appear yet >D
